Target Audience

This activity is designed for specialists in gastroenterology, hepatology, and primary care.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe how new developments in managing conditions of the upper and lower GI tract and liver diseases apply to current practice.
  • Review current Barrett’s esophagus surveillance and ablation.
  • Recommend appropriate screening and surveillance strategies to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.
  • Apply the most current strategies to evaluate and treat unexplained chronic abdominal pain, unexplained diarrhea, and unexplained GI bleeding.
  • Employ a multimodal strategy that includes lifestyle changes, medication, endoscopy, and surgery to manage gastroesophageal reflux disease.
  • Describe the current state-of-the-science in treatment for inflammatory bowel disease, including pharmacologic agents, dosage, and regimens designed to induce and maintain remission.
  • Summarize new developments in medical treatment of viral hepatitis.
  • Discuss the management of bile duct stones, probiotics in GI tract disease, and GI motility disorders.
